The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. The District Comptroller reports to the District Director and, as a member of the management team, performs a dual function in financial support to the District Office and monitors, evaluates and assists the respective Local Housing Organizations (LHOs) in all financial matters. The District Comptroller is responsible for the financial, administration and human resources operation management for the District Office. This position also plays a fiduciary role in managing the District Office’s assets and in the provision of effective financial management reporting to the District and Directorate Offices. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for negotiating and developing budgets that secure the financial resources needed to provide services. They will work in co-operation with the executive management team to ensure expenditures are made in a manner consistent with the Corporation’s policies and within the budget allocated. The incumbent will also ensure all accounting processes are performed under the guidance of the generally accepted accounting principles and Legislative requirements.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of the CPA designation with at least five (5) years of related business or accounting experience and two (2) years supervisory experience in an administrative or accounting environment is required.

Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Communications Officer manages internal and external communications for the NHC, GN. The role develops and delivers communications products and activities, including the annual report, promotional materials, website content, social media, and a photo and video library. The position also plays a key role in ensuring consistent messaging and high-quality visual and written content across all communication channels.

Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will also include:

Developing and editing content for reports, publications, and social media

Assisting with design and layout of corporate documents and coordinating translations

Maintain and update NHC’s SharePoint site, keeping photos, content, and materials organized and easy to access for staff and the Communications team

Organizing and supporting trade shows and promotional events

Providing advice on web, video, and publication standards

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma in Computer Graphic Design/Desktop Publishing, Communications, Photography, Videography, Website Design, Journalism, or a related field with two (2) years work experience in one of the above-mentioned disciplines.

The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut.  NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030. 

The position provides accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue operations, analyses, reports, financial advice and support to clients, and other assigned administrative duties. Work is performed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, financial and applicable legislation, policies, procedures, control processes and collective agreement to ensure quality financial and client services, and the financial and service goals of the Government of Nunavut.   The work performed impacts timely and correct payments to employees and suppliers, the secure handling and deposit of revenues, accurate financial reports for management decision-making, the reputation of the Corporation and the ultimately the Government of Nunavut.  The position provides financial expertise and delivers training to Corporation employees on the correct interpretation and application of financial legislation, policy, and processes, and advises program managers on a wide range of accounting, budget, program, contracting, Grants and Contributions, payroll, or other issues.  Finally, the position is responsible to enter data in various systems from a variety of source documents and determine appropriate accounts, coding, as well as verify that sufficient funds are available. 

The successful candidate requires completion of a college diploma in a related field and have a minimum of 2 years of relevant finance experience in a computerized environment.  The candidate must have experience in providing advisory services to clients and must be able to work effectively with financial systems and other databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs and produce accurate financial reports and documents.
